We’re starting a new tradition here at Lindsay Patterson, and it’s called, Global Warming Hip Hop Video Friday. I’ll post ‘em as I see ‘em, on Fridays. Following up on the YouTube success of the Vermont teen rap video “CO2″ (which was technically posted on a Wednesday), here’s Lil Peppi, an 8-year old kid from Florida, with “Mother Nature’s Crying.”

Right now, global warming hip hop is a niche market, but it wouldn’t be surprising if a song or two actually made it into the airwaves. Mainstream rappers are already dropping references to GHGs (you’d have to download the mp3 and listen closely). Just think… if carbon offsets became the new bling.

Our children are taking the lead now to save the world as we know it for coming generations, I suppose, because many too many in my not-so-great generation of elders are helplessly preoccupied with their relentless, unbridled pursuit of wealth and power.
Nice, this could be the start of an epidemic! We should have Weird Al do a parody of some popular song and turn it into a global warming song.
But what’s your take on Melissa Etheridge’s “Inconvenient Truth”? I think I’d rather absorb green messaging through hip hop than washed-up crooning.
I agree, Naomi, Melissa Etheridge’s song was the weakest link made by the movie. Hip hop has the potential to be a much more powerful medium.
cool. Hip hop is definitely in for awhile.
I’d vote Lil Peppi for president. Thomas Friedman would love this kid.
Sorry Sara, but you’ll have to wait 26 more years to carry a Peppi/Kanye sign. Change will come in 2036!
