Naturopathy for beehives?

I came across this site today and thought you might be interested. The lead article here is USING SPEARMINT AND LEMONGRASS TO PROTECT BEES FROM MITES THAT THREATEN HIVES. The whole idea of non-toxic cures for any condition is appealing, but especially when it comes to this baffling problem about the bees. The source of this article is the University of West Virginia. Check it out, and notice all the other links about bees, colony collapse disorder and bee-traps.jpgthe latest developments.

The article you linked to answers a question I’d had about the bees and “colony collapse disorder” (CCD). I’d wondered if it was just a U.S. phenomenon. But, apparently, it’s not. Here’s what the article says:

“The ongoing CCD problem escalated in November 2006 and seems to have spread to 27 states and Brazil, Canada and many parts of Europe.”

Poor bees. At least spearmint and lemongrass seem like a gentle solution. Hope it does some good.

“African people used lemon grass to manage honeybees for the last 60,000 years.” That’s amazing.

That is so awesome that WWCF is doing this. We are so lucky that people care so much for our bee population. Keep up the good work WWCF- you are setting a great example for humanity!
