According to the National Geographic Society, under the auspices of their Conservation Trust, a “BioBlitz”
a 24-hour event in which a team of scientists, volunteers, and community members join forces to find, identify, and learn about as many local species as possible. The 2007 BioBlitz was in Rock Creek Park and was the first of 10 Bioblizes to be conducted in conjunction with the U.S. National Park Service. The next Bioblitz will be in 2008 in the Santa Monica Mountains. Check out more about BIOBLITZ!

Some of the best times I’ve had hiking have been with a naturalist (my wife) who really knows about the flora and fauna. Kudos to BioBlitz!
